Description +-

This painting shows the unrealistic expectations that confront contemporary women. A woman must appear attractive, have a career, family, kids, friends, and time for herself. In most cases, women have to work hard - much of which is not paid (housework, raising children, care of elders, etc.). The painting composition consists of a naked woman's body and a cleaning mop set. The perception of a woman's body as an object with a purpose to please the observer is here shown in a satirical way.

Artist +-

Tamara Berger

Tamara Berger was born in Belgrade, Serbia, and currently lives with her family in Germany. Alongside painting and exhibiting her work around Germany, Berger teaches art and travels often to artist residencies. One of her primary focuses is the role of a woman in traditional art, and in contemporary societies. American Philosopher Judith Butler and her idea of gender as performative and fluid are often source of inspiration in Tamara´s works. She questions the concept of binary, and speaks for gender equality, and for the rights of women and queer people. Tamara is great admirer of Asian cultures, with a big interest in Japanese culture in particular. She views this artistic interest as similar to that of Vincent van Gogh, who she uses as a point of inspiration.
