Saint Louis Languish is an ode to the suburbs - but not the type with matching houses and high security. Instead, this is an image of a modest, diverse reality of the American Dream. The artist writes: "As a young adult, I am often confronted with the social and personal pressure of owning a house. One day, while my nephew slept in his stroller, I paused on our walk and let this pressure soak in once more before I wrung it out for good. The reality - the “Dream” - is not and should not be universal. The stacks of houses, one street after the next, offered both a sense of peace and languish as I became swallowed by their promise of happiness and comfort. All over again, I am driven by a dream that isn't my own."

Lindsey Day  

Lindsey Day is a visual artist born and raised in the American Midwest. Steeped in the imagery from urban and rural landscapes, her work portrays the harmony among destruction, preservation, and metamorphosis as necessary functions of both the natural and superficial world. Through painting, drawing, and collage, she illustrates environmental nuances where people dwell and move around as individuals and groups. Each piece is a narration of soulful energy, like a unique observation or memory, recalled like a dream. Day’s pursuit is aided by the sign language of her surroundings and passion for social equity. Day earned an MFA in Painting and

Drawing from University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She has received the UNL Othmer Fellowship, the Hixson-Lied Graduate Student Scholarly and Creative Activity Grant, the Wendy Jane Bantam Exhibition Award, and the Public Art Lincoln Billboard Grant. She has been an Artist in Residence at the Vermont Studio Center, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and the LUX Center for the Arts. As a queer painter and theatre properties artisan, Day advocates for creative development and accessibility through community engagement and support.
