Not on Paper platform launch x activist art exhibition
Artvocate and The Holy Art Gallery are hosting their launch event between September 30th and October 2nd to celebrate their recent expansion: Not on Paper art exhibition and artist talks.
The event will bring together works from more than 25 activist artists advocating topics from human rights, refugees rights, climate justice to gender equity. Some of their panel guests include Iva Troj Zlatev, Fatima Zaman and Simon Cheng. Highlighting the necessary, and natural, overlap between art and activism, the event will inspire, educate and create a space for discussion.
Not on Paper aims to explore the subtle but realistic dilemma between: the revelation of truth, definition of aesthetics, and even government censorship on artistic expression. Exploring ideas on, and especially off, the canvas, will provide audiences with a full perspective on a social movement.
The launch event will highlight and strengthen the activist role that art has arguably always played - a narrative and driving force on the socio-political landscape. They will bring together leading activists and artists on panel talks with:
- Jens Galschiøt - characterised as one of the most significant Danish artists of late modernity; best known for the Pillar of Shame, his artistic output covers a wide field of expression - from jewellery and small fine figures to giant, politically-charged sculptures
- Iva Troj Zlatev - 2016 Palm Award Winner and 2019 CAF Artist Of The Year, known for merging Renaissance aesthetics and techniques with postmodern praxis; Recent projects include a solo show in The Louvre, Paris and the “Master Piece” inspired by the Halo Infinite, in collaboration with Microsoft
- Fatima Zaman - Activist recently named as the UK’s Asian Woman of Achievement who works with partners, including the United Nations, to enhance human rights focusing on women, peace and security
- Simon Cheng - Hong Kong exiled pro-democracy activist known by many when he was detained by Chinese authorities, now a political refugee in the UK who set up a non-profit servicing the diaspora community from Hong Kong
