Description +-

This piece dares the audience to discard the external conditionings of the status quo, along with everything one is conditioned to believe in and be co-dependant on. Teague wants to counter how the sum of an individual’s "worth" in society is determined by their financial status, job, age, gender, sexuality and appearance. This work pushes the narrative of happiness being related to the inner self; rather than related to physicality and labels. Teague asks viewers to "raise your consciousness - your personal happiness, success, emotions and purpose in this lifetime is an entirely personal and individual journey" and to "leave a positive rebellious impact, and for god’s sake, live passionately with wild abandonment."

Mikarla Teague 

Mikarla Teague is an Australian based artist who has exhibited both nationally and internationally within Human Rights Showcases, Organisations and Exhibitions. Teague's passion lies within the purpose of her artworks: to question and confront the realities which have been imposed onto society. Her primary intentions are to produce works that tell a story while dismantling the status quo. By shining a spotlight and creating awareness, Teague empowers and inspires individuals to stand up and act. The artist is a strong advocate for the power of the arts as an alternative form of mental health therapy. With the belief that art serves as a non-threatening avenue for self-expression, she recognises its visual language as allowing people to communicate thoughts and feelings otherwsie too difficult to put into words.
