‘Flame’ shows a young girl in a twist on the whole maiden of spring motif. Her crown of flowers is dead and dried, as are the flowers in her hand. She stands in a smoky landscape, as the flowers on her head and in her hand smoulder and burn. Floral wreaths in a maiden’s hair are a symbol of renewal and hope for the future. With this painting, I’m expressing my fear for the future of our children, as climate change takes hold.

Lesley Thiel
Lesley Thiel is an international award winning, figurative artist known for her highly detailed photorealistic paintings. They include feathers, flowers, and animals as a sign of hope for our collective future. They speak of the strength of the upcoming generation of young women and girls, who may well be our saviors. They question the accepted narrative of the female voice in society and the myths attached to this. Her paintings are represented in collections throughout the world.
