Description +-

A man lays in a domestic sense of redemption. The use of a male figure, drapery and alcohol motifs become a reflection of a softer or broken-down perspective of masculinity. The imagery in this artworks doesn’t seem to have a stereotypical portrayal but comes across both as slightly depressive and humorous in approach.

Aaron Peever’s work is captivating in its honest representation. The subject matter portrayed is intriguing with its focus on leisure-times. Sociologically, this is a way to view variances of economic backgrounds. Thus, Peever’s work provides insight into lifestyle and economics through its exploration of alcohol culture.

The visuality is contemporary in a mode rooted in art history. His muted colour palette works brilliantly with the slightly aberrant subject matter to expand on current issues surrounding alcohol culture and isolation. This marks his work as both relatable and expanding of the canon.

Aaron Peever  

Aaron Peever was born and raised in Bridgend in South Wales, UK. He first found a desire to practice fine art at Cardiff Arts Academy and decided to develop his artwork at Arts University Bournemouth. He graduated in 2020 with BA Hons Fine Art. Through his degree, Peever found his passion for oil painting and gained an understanding of the medium.

From the experiences in his personal life, he developed his concepts around the human condition and society, often looking into British culture and alcohol usage. Peever’s vivid but muted colour palette reflects an honest representation of emotional stereotypes within alcohol culture in Britain. Peever contrasts his contemporary subjects with medieval English to evoke the social status of economic backgrounds.
